WESH 2 NEWS ORLANDO – JOE JONAS INTERVIEW

ORLANDO, Fla. – A new music reality competition show for CW18 is kicking off in Orlando and Joe Jonas, one of the show’s mentors, spoke about it with WESH 2′s Aixa Diaz on Thursday morning.

Jonas, Gloria Estefan, John Rich, and Nelly, mentored four of Orlando’s local musicians for 72 hours. Each contestant has the chance at making it as a big star.

“It’s really nice to be able to get to know each artist individually,” Jonas said. “It’s fun to take John Rich from Nashville, or Gloria Estfan and put them in these peoples’ homes. It’s great TV.”

The mentors and contestants meet at the House of Blues on July 11th.

Meet & Greet, Baltimore

Joe Jonas has shared these photos from his time working on “The Next: Fame Is At Your Doorstep” in Baltimore! Here’s what Joe shared about the talent in Baltimore:

''Baltimore! You rocked! Some really strong talent in this city.. I am ready for NYC!''
Did YOU try out for “The Next” in Baltimore?

It’s been over two years since the Jonas Brothers hit the studio together and now, after a little time apart, Kevin, Joe, and Nick are ready to capture girls’ hearts all over again with their upcoming album!

Just Jared Jr. recently chatted with Joe at an event for Acuvue’s 1-Day Contest in NYC, where he spilled exclusive details to us about the band’s new music, how he handles heartbreak, and the possibility of starring in a musical with Nick!

Here’s what the 22-year-old singer had to say:

JJJ: Happy early birthday! Do you have any plans?
Joe Jonas: Thank you! Maybe just have dinner with some friends, honestly. Every birthday I have I’m normally on tour. It’s always a cool way to celebrate. We have a bunch of people together and we all hang out and have a big celebration. I think it’ll be nice to just do something a little bit chill this time.

JJJ: You’ve been tweeting a lot lately about recording with Kevin and Nick for your guys’ upcoming album! Can you give us any hints as to what the tracks will sound like?
JJ: I think they have [more] mature lyrics and as we’re getting older we’re able to talk about different things and we each have different inspirations [to pull from]. I’m really happy with the music though. I feel like it’s kind of more back to what it should be, more where the roots are, meaning instruments. You know, it’s not so programmed and all off a keyboard and electronic stuff, it’s almost organic.

JJJ: Is it safe to say new Jonas Brothers’ music will be released before the end of the year?
JJ: Yeah, I think before the end of the year definitely. We’ve got a couple opportunities this year concert-wise that we might do so you might hear it there!

JJJ: When you guys were first starting out, did you have a backup plan in case your music wasn’t a hit?
JJ: When me and my brothers first started, I think I thought maybe it wasn’t [going to take off]. You always put in the back of your mind that this could just [last] a year, or it could be less, so I did have on my mind to do something [else] like acting or [playing] sports, because when I was younger I never really did sports. If I could have done something like that I would have been happy too, but I’m very pleased to be doing this.

JJJ: What would you say is your guilty pleasure?
JJ: I really love slurpees! I’m a big slurpee guy. Two days ago was free slurpee day at 7-Eleven and I didn’t even realize that. I was pretty upset. (Laughs)

JJJ: Earlier this year, fans saw you on the dating show The Choice. What advice do you have for healing a broken heart?
JJ: I would say…get out of your house. Go hang with friends and get your mind off of it. Go do things that maybe you haven’t done before, because it can be easy to just sit inside your house either look at all the stuff that they gave you and that can be tough. Take a trip somewhere! That’s what I love to do. I just love to get away if things are bad and tough, maybe take a road trip.

JJJ: Since then, you’ve been busy working on another show called The Next: Fame Is At your Doorstep. What’s that experience been like?
JJ: It’s really cool! It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, be able to mentor musicians. To work with someone that’s in the same genre of pop music and be able to help them towards their career is really exciting!

JJJ: How’s your show different from American Idol and the X Factor?
JJ: The biggest difference is that we’re pretty much moving in with these people. We go in there and are like, ‘Listen. For the next 72 hours I’m going to be hanging out and living with you and we’re going to be practicing as much as possible to get you ready for the biggest show of your life!’

JJJ: That had to be an interesting experience! Can you give us a sneak peek at some of the situations you guys were exposed to while living with the contestants?
JJ: Yeah, for instance, Gloria Estefan, (laughs), she was riding a tractor around and I was babysitting 15 kids! It was pretty bizarre. We did things we’d never done before, but it was a lot of fun.

JJJ: Do you think the Jonas Brothers may perform together on The Next?
JJ: (Smiles) There is a chance, yeah. I’ve talked to my brothers about it and they’re up for it, so if it works out schedule-wise I’m sure you’ll see us on the show.

JJJ: Since you’ve been hanging out in NYC a lot lately, have you ever gotten lost on the subway?
JJ: I have gotten lost. I was kind of taking up the challenge because it was around 5 or 6 and in rush hour traffic you can’t get anywhere. I was uptown for a meeting and I tried to get a cab, but it was dead-stop traffic, so I thought I’d just take the subway. I got off at the wrong stop and was still like a good 23 blocks from my apartment. I was like, ‘Ugh!’

JJJ: Seeing how Nick just wrapped up his Broadway show, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, would you ever consider doing a musical?
JJ: (Smiles) Me and my brother Nick, we’ve talked about doing something. Maybe [we'll do] a show together next year. It’s just an idea.

JJJ: Would the musical be something original?
JJ: Yeah, I think it’d be kind of cool to do a show that was in the West End over in London that maybe had brothers in it somehow. That would be I think the ultimate dream.

JJJ: What would you say has been your best and worst experiences in the Big Apple so far?
JJ: Best experiences…I think there is just so much inspiration in New York City! It’s kind of fun to be able to take my bike and ride it and chill. My worst experience is the same thing. I lost my bike, well my bike got stolen, in the daylight on a Saturday. It was kind of bazaar. It was locked and everything. When my bike got stolen, my buddy said, ‘You’re officially a New Yorker now.’ It was kind of a bummer, but it happens.

JJJ: Do you have any lucky charms or something special that you’ve gotten from NYC?
JJ: I have this bracelet that I’ve been wearing a lot. It’s so funny, people compliment me on it and think it’s like from David Yurman or something like that, but it’s really from a guy on the street, literally like two blocks down. I love his jewelry, so I always sport his stuff. Every time I walk up [to his table] he’s like, ‘Ahhh!’ Last time I actually went, he thought I put on [one of his other bracelets] and wasn’t going to pay [for it]. I had to be like, ‘No, the other one’s right there.’ He almost punched me out! (Laughs)

JJJ: Besides being a mentor/judge on The Next, you’ve also been able to help kids achieve their dreams with Acuve. What’s that been like?
JJ: It’s been great! It’s similar to The Next with me being a mentor, but in a different way. For me, inspiring somebody with the dream they have for charitable work and being able to get either their charity started or raise money for a certain cause is something I just look at and go, ‘Ok, this is why I do this.’ It’s like a dream for me, so it’s been really special.

JJJ: Can you tell us about some of your experiences so far?
JJ: The team at Acuve has been so helpful at [pairing] me with the right opportunities. These two girls I’ve had so far are just so sweet. Both times I’ve just connected really well with them, so I’m really happy.

JJJ: Who would you say has been your biggest inspiration or mentor in helping you achieve your dreams?
JJ: My dad is always someone I’ve looked up to. He’s an incredible person and not only a great manager, but a great dad. He knows how to separate them both. He’s been very supportive during our careers. Even when we only had two people in the audience, he was driving us miles and spending his money so that we could live our dream and that was really an important thing.

JJJ: Thanks for doing this interview!
JJ: Thank you!

Joe Jonas Hangs With Nelly For Birthday Celebration
The now 23-year-old singer dishes to MTV News that 'The Next' co-stars will be on hand for birthday bash.

Happy birthday, Joe Jonas! Today the multi-hyphenate performer turns 23.

Luckily, just one day before the singer/actor/reality TV mentor celebrated his big day, MTV News got the chance to chat with him about it. And during the discussion, he dished on how he plans to celebrate it with fellow mentors from the new CW singing competition show, "The Next."

"The hanging out process has been great, being able to kick it back with them off camera," he said of his co-stars on the show. "We hang out almost every episode, every city were in. Obviously, like L.A., we're all home or whatever, so I don't get to see them as much. But it'll be fun tomorrow. My birthday's tomorrow so they're throwing me a birthday party. So John [Rich] and Gloria [Estefan] and Nelly are going to be there."

But it won't be Joe's first b-day bash that Nelly attended. "And I had a birthday party a few days ago and Nelly came out for that," he recalled. "He came in early. Me and Nelly perform on an episode recently together. That was just a trip getting on stage with him."

Joe's 23rd year is set to be a big one for him. With his Disney days behind him, he is looking to make some more grown-up moves, both solo and with his Jonas Brothers by his side. First up, this Thursday (August 16), "The Next" premieres. On it, he and the other celebrity mentors travel the country to help aspiring singers get a push toward stardom. He will also appear on big brother Kevin's reality show, "Married To Jonas," which kicks off this Sunday on E!

And, of course, more new music is on the horizon. All three JoBros have been busy in the studio working on their next album, their first since leaving Hollywood Records. Fans could hear new music by the end of the year.

Leave your birthday wishes in the comments or on Twitter!

JOE JONAS’S SURPRISE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Gloria tweeted a nice message to Joe as well: “@JoeJonas HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY! One more show and it’s PARTY TIME! Xoxo! Love working & singing with you.”

It looks like Joe had a really good time at the party.

JOE JONAS: TAYLOR'S NEW SONG ISN'T ABOUT ME!

After Taylor Swift released her latest post-breakup song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, everyone wanted to know which guy the song could be about.

The 22-year-old's exes include celebs like Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, and Joe Jonas. Joe was quick to take himself out of the running this time!

He explained “I can say it's not about me because I don't think we ever tried another time.”

But he also had some nice things to say about his ex - “I think the song is great. Taylor does pop music really well and I'm happy for her. I haven't really spoken to her recently but I was able to go to her concert last year, and her show life is so phenomenal.”

Joe added that things are good between the show of them, saying “I think we're cool. It's pretty years removed.”

Taylor is currently dating a new guy, 18-year-old Conor Kennedy.

Wambie girls, who do you think this song could be about?

Thanks to Wambie girl Aida for sending this in!
